Report: US - UAE $23 billion F-35 deal could include 50 aircraft, Reaper drones

Updated: Nov 11, 2020

November 10 - The Trump administration reportedly "just gave Congress formal notification for a massive arms transfer to the United Arab Emirates, according to John Hudson of the Washington Post. The deal will include "50 F-35s, 18 MQ-9 Reapers with munitions; a $10 billion munitions package including thousands of Mk 82 dumb bombs, guided bombs, missiles & more," he tweeted on November 10, according to his sources.

The F-35 is already sold to key US allies, such as Israel and the push for sales came as part of the Abraham Accord.

Text of the declaration

The statement from US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo illustrates that the deal was much larger than the $10 billion figure first discussed. It includes the Reaper drones, for $3 billion as well as air to air and air to ground munitions which is valued at $10 billion by itself. This will vastly improve the UAE's abilities and is important for the Abraham Accords. Read some background here.
