What is the Secure F-35 Exports Act of 2020

Updated: Nov 6, 2020

October 22 - US Senators Bob Menendez and Dianne Feinstein introduced the “Secure F-35 Exports Act of 2020” which may have ramifications on future exports of the 5th generation advanced aircraft to the Middle East. Both the UAE and Qatar want the aircraft, reports indicate. Defense News notes that "The bill would require the White House to provide a report detailing the technical risks of selling the F-35 to any country that is not a NATO member or not allies Japan, South Korea, Israel, Australia or New Zealand." The bill would relate to certain issues to slow down exports pushed by the White House. It would relate to Israel's qualitative military edge as well as human rights "criteria." Congress, the Pentagon and State Department would be involved in the process. Read the full report.
